Description
This listing is for a woman's folk costume from the Kyjov area of Moravia. This variation of the kroj was worn by brides in the severokyjovsko (northern Kyjov) region. Wedding costumes are very rare as they are often kept in the family, which is also why there are not as well known as other versions. The costume include a black wedding skirt, white bridal apron, short vest, and embroidered blouse. The blouse would have historically had white embroidery on the cuffs, but this one has black. The costume did not come with a wedding headdress, but I have listed a married woman's bonnet in a separate auction that you can add if desired. I have also listed an indigo embroidered apron that would have been worn on other occasions. The last photo shows a bride from Kyjov wearing a similar costume. Overall the costume is in very good, wearable condition and it is a larger size which makes it more suitable for modern wear. The skirt is a wrap around style that can be adjusted to fit most sizes. The vest has some later alterations and additions such as the silver bead trim that was added to make it more festive. This can be removed if desired. I did not include measurements for the blouse, because if the vest fits then the blouse will too! Particularly beautiful is the handmade bobbin lace on the cuffs. A fine wearable kroj for your wedding, pageant or folk costume collection!
A note regarding condition: All of the costumes and textiles that I sell are vintage and have typically seen decades of use resulting in expected wear and tear that add to the history and authenticity of each piece. In case of above average wear, I try to list any significant damages and heavy signs of use in the above description. Depending on the age, materials, and condition, I will often hand-wash more durable, colorfast cotton and linen elements, but embellished garments, heavier wool pieces or items made from silk or fine fabrics are sold in the original, unwashed condition. Small holes or stains, missing sequins/beads, worn trim, and other marks related to standard wear are common and do not detract from the value of most pieces. Please keep in mind that a vintage textile or garment in very good condition might still show signs of use, storage and age. Unless otherwise noted, all of the items listed for sale are in very good, stable condition and are suitable for use, wear or display.
